| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Saturday, May 20, 2017, page 5a Sophia Hassen, 92, passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017, at the Marley House in Prescott, Arizona. Mrs. Hassen was a resident of Prescott since 1982, and an Arizona resident for 67 years. Sophia worked at Sears in Prescott in the personnel and accounting department for 15 years before retiring in 2004. Walt, her husband of 54 years, passed away in 2006. Sophia Kathleen Hassen was born on March 31, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, and was married to Walter Gary Hassen on Sept. 6, 1942. Walt served in the Army Air Force, and after World War II, in 1950, moved to Phoenix. Sophia is survived by her son, Gary, and his wife, Jill; grandson, Gabriel Hassen, and his wife, Emily; grandson, Jeremy Hassen, and his wife, Michelle; great granddaughter, Brenna Hassen; great grandson, Wyatt Hassen; and Sophia’s little dog, Leon. Interment and graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the National Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix. Sophia will be laid to rest beside her husband Walt. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Sophia’s name to The Marley House, 1063 Ruth St., Prescott, Arizona 86301.
