Carol Faye Helmkay, 84, passed away on October 11, 2016, in Phoenix, AZ after a long battle with cancer. She was born to Jack A.P. and Alice (Weitzel) Helmkay on March 20, 1932 in Bad Axe, Michigan. The family moved to Arizona in 1935 for her father's health.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Philip James Helmkay and nephew Philip Dean Helmkay.

She is survived by her nephew Jack Marshall Helmkay (Tammie), grandnephew Jared Helmkay (Frances) and grandniece Rachel Caruso, and seven great grand nieces and nephews, and many cousins in Arizona and Michigan.

She attended Kenilworth grammar school and Arizona State University. Carol was an accomplished violinist playing in her High School Orchestra, the ASU Orchestra and the City of Phoenix Orchestra. She was a teacher in the Phoenix and Wickenburg School Districts until retirement. Carol was noted for her writings and poetry and had several poems published in the National Library of Poetry. During the summer she and her mother traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and Canada.

A Memorial Service will be held from 12:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Lowmans Arizona Funeral Home, 717 West Dobbins Road, Phoenix, Arizona. Arrangements entrusted to Lowmans Arizona Funeral Home, Inc.
