| Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Friday, November 11, 1938, p. 1 Wickenburg Mourns Death Of Rosa Ellis Many Attend Funeral Services which were Conducted by Stray Elks of Wickenburg Wickenburg lost one of its most beloved old-time residents when Mrs. Rosa Ellis was taken by death Monday after an illness of a month or more. Many sorrowing friends attended the funeral services which were conducted by the Stray Elks of Wickenburg at the Wickenburg Chapel with J. R. Barnette officiating. Mrs. R. S. Eimicke sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied by Jimmy Graham and his guitar. Honorary pallbearers were Chas. Hyder, Bert Schoof, Erick Rudd, John Grace, O. K. Jones and John Boetto and other pallbearers were Y. M. Martin, Floyd Wachter, Henry Alrich, Sr., Lee Barnette, Roy Pemberton and Tom Richards. Mrs. Ellis was born in Montgomery City, Missouri in 1865 and would have been 74 years old her next birthday. Coming to Wickenburg in 1894 she operated a rooming house until four years ago when it was destroyed by fire. Remembered by the old-timers particularly, for her kind deeds, she never turned a hungry person away from her door, Mrs. Rosa Ellis leaves an impression on the life of the community and in the hearts of those who knew her, that will remain for years to come. She is survived by a sister in California and several nieces and nephews in Missouri. Interment was made in the Wickenburg Cemetery. See Also: Find A Grave |
