Arizona Weekly Journal-Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, July 13, 1910, page 1, column 1 Humboldt joined the crime circle last night in the murder of Crescena Miranda, who was shot by another Mexican known as "Pisano." Both were brother-in-laws. The deed was committed at the Cordova saloon, where Pisano is a bartender, and the causes leading up to the taking of another human life are unknown. Immediately preceding the killing of Miranda, the particulars learned were that Miranda d came into the saloon and after directing abusive language at Pisano, informed him he was armed and asked the latter to come out into the open. Instead of complying with the request Pisano quickly retreated behind the bar, and securing a six-shooter, came from behind the bar and fired three shots at Miranda, two of which struck their mark, one entering the head and the other the chest of Miranda. He expired in a few minutes. Immediately after the shooting Pisano made his escape, going in the direction of the Agua Fria river. Deputy Sheriff Fred Campbell was summoned to the scene, and immediately took the trail of the fugitive. A short time afterward Deputy Sheriff Thomas Thompson, at Mayer, was notified by telephone, and he also went in the direction of the Agua Fria, to intercept the man if he traveled down that stream. The dead man was well known and highly regarded in Humboldt. He was engaged at various times in commercial pursuits, and leaves a mother and seven sister, all of whom are held in high esteem. The supposition is that family troubles were the cause that led to the willful crime. An inquest was held on the body of Miranda later by Judge Francis, and nothing additional was learned as to the motive of the killing, that is generally deplored and condemned in that community. ------------ Arizona Weekly Journal-Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, July 20, 1910, page 7, column 3 Unfortunate Man Buried The burial of C. Miranda, who was slain at Humboldt, a few days ago, by his brother-in-law, Pisano, took place yesterday in this city, from Ruffner's chapel. Rev. Father Mandin of the Catholic church, officiated. Interment was in the Citizens' cemetery. The cortege was a large one, and many friends of the deceased came from Humboldt to pay their last respects. Among them were the mother of the deceased and seven sisters. The family has received many expressions of condolence in their bereavement, the murdered man being universally popular wherever known. |
