| Salt Lake Tribune (Salt Lake City, Utah) Friday, August 3, 2018 Walter Irvin Anderson Jr. (1925 - 2018) Walter I Anderson Jr. passed away peacefully on July 29, 2018 at the age of 93 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Walt was born on July 5, 1925 in Danville, Virginia to Ray Speer Anderson and Walter Irvin Anderson Sr., the oldest of three boys. Walter grew up in Maryville, Tennessee and graduated from the University of Tennessee. He served in World War II in active duty from 1943-1946 and spent time in Germany and the Philippines. He married Dorothy Jean Gibson in 1948. They had one daughter, Debra Ray in 1951 and then were later transferred to Salt Lake City, Utah where Walter was with the FBI as a special agent. Walt married Patricia Young Schneider in 1971 and retired from the FBI in 1976. Walt is survived by his wife Pat of 47 years, his two brothers Chesley Anderson (Barbara) of Saskatoon, Canada and John Anderson (Judy) of Cora, Wyoming; daughter Debra Hibberd of Wickenburg, Arizona; step children Mark Schneider (Mary) of Salt Lake City, Kirk Schneider (Nata) of Salt Lake City and Jeri Schneider of Seattle, Washington; Grandchildren Sage Hibberd (Jerod) of Driggs, Idaho, Julie Leeder of Cedar City, Utah and four great grandchildren. Walt had a full and adventurous life. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, powder skiing, camping, boating, and traveling. He was a competitive tennis player and excellent skier. He was instrumental in founding the Cottonwood Club ski program in the 60's. He spent much time exploring Southern Utah, Lake Powell and also traveled extensively in Mexico for many years. Walt was a devoted husband, wonderful father and touched many lives throughout his life, career and travels. He will be greatly missed by all his family and remembered with much love. The family would like to thank caregivers Beau Chaine and Ted Woodger for the care and friendship they provided to Walt over many years. In accordance with Walt's wishes, there will be no funeral. There will be a Celebration of Walt's Life for family and close friends on August 22, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood Club. |
