James S. Passey, Mesan 78 Years, Dies

MESA--Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Mesa 11th Ward for James S. Passey, 81, Mesa resident for 78 years.

Mr. Passey died yesterday in his home at 307 E. Second Ave. here. A native of Bear Lake, Idaho, he was a retired carpenter.

He was brought to Mesa in infancy by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Passey, who were members of one of the first Mormon companies to settle in the town.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission in the Northeast.

Survivors are his wife, Bertha; three sons, James F. of Salome, and Harold and Arthur B., both of Phoenix; three daughters, Mrs. Leola Miller of Salome, and Mrs. Lenore Barney and Mrs. Viola Vineyard, both of Mesa; three brothers, Fred O. of Mesa, Joseph A. of Los Angeles, and Adam I. of Prescott; and 32 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in Mesa Cemetery. Friends may call at Meldrum Mortuary tomorrow.
