June 9, 1926 - Aug. 20, 2018

Luella June Barke, 92, of Minot, N.D., formerly of Mandan, died Monday, Aug. 20, 2018 in a Velva nursing home.

Luella was born June 9, 1926, in Sawyer, N.D. to David and Louise (Heizelman) Beck. She spent her youth in Sawyer Township of Ward County and completed her high school education at Sawyer High School in 1945.

Luella found work in Minot as a clerk at JC Penney's until she joined NW Clinic in 1947. She worked there for 23 years until she moved to Mandan and began working at Heartview Foundation.

Luella was united in marriage to Howard Barke on Dec. 12, 1978, in Mandan, N.D. They moved to Wickenburg in 1978 where she worked at The Meadows Addiction Treatment Facility as the office manager until she retired. Howard preceded her in death on April 19, 1998, and she returned to Minot in 2001.

Luella was a member of Bible Fellowship Church in Minot. She enjoyed spending time in fellowship with friends and found comfort in the reading of a good book.

She is survived by her nephews, Bruce Beck, Mandan, N.D., Bryce (Terri) Beck and Bryant (Megan) Beck, Minot; great-nieces: Kesha (Blake) Prado, Sydney, Skylar, Skotti, Shawntey and Alexia Beck; and great-great-niece Jetleigh Prado.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard and brother Arnold Beck.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28 at the Bible Fellowship Church, Minot. Interment: Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, rural Sawyer, N.D. Visitation was Friday, from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.
