Published in Today's News Herald from Jan. 22 to Jan. 23, 2019 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Gilberto Sierra, 84, passed away peacefully in his home on Jan. 15, 2019. He was born in Guatemala City, Guatemala on Sept. 26, 1934 to Augusta Sierra. He went to Polytechnic school, a military school similar to West Point. He then went onto work for the Guatemala Police Department assigned to border patrol. After leaving the military, he went on to become a salesman for a retail store. He married the love of his life, Alba, in 1972 and the couple had two children together. He has competed in boxing and other various sports. Gilberto came to the U.S. in 1973 and proudly became a citizen in Arizona in 1986. He loved spending time with his family, traveling, and going to casinos. He is survived by his loving wife; children Rosana and William Sierra and Abby Locatis; sister, Delia Davila; and several nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his mother; brother, Rueben Sierra; and nephew, Vinico Davila. A visitation will be held in the chapel at Mohave Memorial Lake Havasu Mortuary on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to Gilberto's family at www.mohavememorial.com.
