Robert Thomas Grymes

Robert T. "Bob" Grymes, 78 of Wickenburg passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at the Wickenburg Community Hospital.

Bob was born Feb. 25, 1938, in Houston, Texas, the son of the late Pat C. and Mary Jane Bradshaw Grymes. He was raised in Houston and lived there until he entered the Marine Corps in 1955.

He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as a heavy machine gunner in an infantry unit. Following his time in the Marines, he entered the Coast Guard. He served in the Coast Guard on board ships and later in his career as a yeoman where he ascended to the rank of Master Chief Petty officer. While in the Coast Guard he lived in California, Texas, Alaska, Washington D.C., Oregon, Louisiana and Washington.

He retired in 1983 and moved to Hamilton, Mont. While in Montana he worked chasing elk off of farmland, fought fires with the forest service and later served as the clerk and parking enforcement officer at the Hamilton Police Department where he retired in the late 1990s.

Bob married Sharon Kennedy on April 17, 1999, in Corvallis, Mont. The couple enjoyed many years of traveling to see family, took several cruises and spent time in Arizona. In 2007, they made Wickenburg their permanent home. Bob worked at the Los Caballeros Golf Club for several seasons. He enjoyed playing cards and cribbage with friends and various activities at the Community Club House.

Survivors include his wife Sharon of Wickenburg; son Tom (Carron) Grymes of Hamilton, Mont.; and step-children, daughter Sherry Park (David), daughter Janice Gabe (Steve); son Joe (Margie) Ewart, son Dennis (Chris) Wetzsteon, son Barry Ewart, son Douglas Ewart; daughter Angie Adamick (Brandon) and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Thursday, Feb. 9 in Wickenburg, with military honors presented by the U.S. Marine Corps. The family suggests memorials to Phoenix Rescue Mission.
