Edith Harriet Alger, age 86, passed away peacefully on Dec. 9, 2023. She
was born on July 25, 1937 to Ethel and Henry Streets, who raised their
six children on a farm near Polson, Mont. At age 17, Edie left home to
attend Kinman Business University in Spokane, Wash, to study
accountancy. Upon securing her fist job, she proudly purchased the
plumbing for her families first indoor bathroom.

While working in Spokane, Edie began dating Donald Alger, a Korean War
Vet. They wed in 1962 and had two children, Terri and Timothy, whom they
raised in the greater Seattle area. Edie worked as an accountant and Don
with Boeing on the first Lunar Rover that went to the moon.

In the early 1970s, the family moved to Morgantown, WV, where Don had a
new project. Edie was able to be a housewife, raising their children,
which she really enjoyed. In 1977, Don's project ended, and they headed
west for California to visit family. While passing through, they fell in
love with Phoenix and made it their new home. Edie worked as a
bookkeeper and Don worked for UniDynamics until they moved to Wickenburg
for retirement in the early 90s. They bought a boat and enjoyed many
visits to Lake Pleasant.

After Edie was widowed in 1998, she moved to Wyoming and worked at The
Flagg Ranch as an accountant. When Edie returned back to Arizona, she
purchased her forever home with her daughter Terri in Morristown, where
she joined the General Federated Women's Club (GFWC), a local non-profit
formed in the 1880s. Edie worked for several more years as the night
audit at the Best Western Motel before retiring for good and focusing on
volunteerism.

Edie was an energetic person and loyal to the club. In her tenure, she
had served as both President and Treasurer. She was dedicated to the
Morristown Community and helped establish the Morristown Volunteer
Library, housed in the Morristown Elementary School's Old Main building.
She also volunteered over 200 hours for the Hassayampa River Preserve
and received several volunteer awards. Her motto was "If they ask me, I
will serve."

Edie was a voracious reader of all kinds of books. She was never without
a book and would literally read anything. Broadminded as they come, Edie
was known for her love of fun, easy laughter, zest for life, and great
sense of humor. She had a love of sports, never missing a Cardinals or
Suns game. She loved to camp and travel and adored her grandchildren and
great grandkids. Edie never had a bad word to say about anyone. She was
loved and cared for by her devoted family and nursed by her
granddaughter, Sabrina, and daughter, Terri.

Edie's legacy of love and laughter will live on in her surviving family,
including brother, Jim Streets; children, Terri (Alger) Johnson and Tim
Alger; her nine grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. She was
beloved and respected by everyone who knew her. We will all miss her
deeply.

A Celebration of Life for Edie will be held at the Old Main Building of
Morristown Elementary School on Jan. 13, 2023 at 2 p.m. Food will be
served and photos will be taken.
