Published by Today's News Herald from Nov. 16 to Nov. 17, 2024 - Lake Havasu City, Arizona - Hugh Bruce Mitchell, born on Aug.30, 1949, in Vincennes, Indiana, to Hugh Wesley and Anna Belle Mitchell, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. Growing up in Lawrenceville, Illinois, Hugh's passion for sports and animals shaped his early dreams of becoming a veterinarian. He joined the Cub Scouts and achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout. At Lawrenceville High School, he was a vibrant participant in band, football, baseball, track, and wrestling, graduating in 1967. Hugh then attended Wabash Community College, where he spent two years studying pre-veterinary medicine before being drafted into the United States Navy in November 1969. Hugh served his country with honor and distinction in Vietnam and as part of Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica and New Zealand. By December 1977, he had achieved the rank of First Class Petty Officer (E-6) and was honorably discharged. Shortly after, he began his career with Northrop Grumman, Electronic Systems Sector, in January 1978, dedicating himself until his retirement on April 27, 2018. On August 10, 1968, Hugh married Diana Frey, and together they welcomed two children, Shannon Marie, born on Feb. 19, 1969, and Shane David, born on July 4, 1971. Though they divorced in 1999, Hugh remained a loving and devoted father. His life was marked by his intelligence, caring nature, infectious laugh, and unwavering love for his family and friends. Hugh was preceded in death by his son Shane on March 12, 2011. He is survived by his daughter Shannon Robledo and her husband Robert, his grandson Mychal and his wife Erendira, and their daughter Evelyn, his grandson Alexander, and his granddaughter Amanda and her husband Jayson. Hugh's impact on those who knew him is immeasurable. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love. Hugh Mitchell's life was a testament to the power of dedication, love, and service. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. On Dec. 9, a celebration of life will be held at 1510 Anchors Way, Ventura, CA 93001. |
